Last October Australia hosted the Governing Board Meeting of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, bringing international delegates from across the biological collections, biodiversity science and e-Research domains to Canberra to further develop a global strategy to better share fundamental biodiversity data.

A one-day symposium was included in the program, bringing together international and Australian stakeholders to explore the changing face of biological collections and their role in supporting cutting-edge science, and novel biodiversity applications including management and policy.

Dr Jordan Bailey was grateful to be invited to represent biosecurity and present on how scientific collections support biosecurity, trade, and market access, highlighting the important and unique role that our collections around the country play in supporting our import and export industries.

This event follows on from national workshop and report on collections in Australia, looking at how we can work better to support them. Download the report.
