Electrical penetration Graph (EPG) course announcement:
What is the EPG (Electrical Penetration Graphs) technique?
A plant and a (mostly) Homopteran insect are made part of an electrical circuit by using
a soil electrode for the plant and gluing a very thin gold wire to insect’s dorsum. Upon
plant penetration by the insect, electrically caused waveforms indicate tissue positions
of the stylet tips and insect activities (mechanical movements, ingestion, or salivation).
Typically, 8 replicates can be recorded for periods up to 8h (more experimental
configurations are possible)
